China’s Red Beach Will Be The Most Breathtaking Thing You See All Day

Just a six-hour drive from the bustling city of Beijing you will find a different kind of beauty — the stunning Red Beach. Located in the province of Panjin, this breathtaking spot is made up of miles and miles of bright red landscapes. While the name suggests that it’s a beach, you will actually not find a single grain of sand there. In fact, it is according to the Smithsonian, one of the biggest wetlands in the world. A Special Kind of Magic

The color change occurs during the fall and while it may appear to be magical, there is, as usual, a scientific explanation for the change. Due to the seepweed species, the grasslands absorb high levels of saline. When it absorbs all the saltwater from the surrounding sea it results in the stunning crimson shade.

The region is flooded with tourists during the fall months who come to marvel at the gorgeous views. Aside from the droves of human tourists, however, exists a myriad of different species, including 260 types of birds, rice, and bamboo shoots. It really is a unique little ecosystem.

How to Get There

While it may look like another world, the Red Beach is actually pretty accessible bus or train. Depending on where you are in mainland China, you can get to Panjin by regular public transport. Once you arrive, you then take the pathway through the wetlands, all the way to the beach.
